Text – An excerpt from the introduction of Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason:

All our intuition is nothing but the representation of phenomena; that things which we see are not by themselves what we see, nor their relations by themselves such as they appear to us, so that, if we drop our subject or the subjective form of our senses, all qualities, all relations of objects in space and time, nay space and time themselves, would vanish. What the objects are by themselves would never become known to us, even through the clearest knowledge of that which alone is given us, the phenomenon.
