Talk (2022) ~7’
dancer and motion sensor
Talk was written in collaboration with Morgan Clune for Solo Dancer and Motion Sensor. In the initial stages of our collaboration, we discussed the idea of how words, when repeated multiple times, could lose meaning and turn into a series of sounds occasionally recognizable as language. Similarly, we discussed how altering emphasis on different words within a phrase drastically changes the meaning. Throughout Talk, we explore these two ideas by creating tension in repetition and juxtaposing stillness and motion. I recorded multiple phrases and words to assemble into an electronic track, and by altering her movement during the piece, Morgan controls how the sound is processed.
